LG is disappointed that its ‘Optimus 7’ and ‘Quantum’ phones did not have the expected sale in the market. LG feels that it may be because of the new Windows Phone 7 platform of the phones which the users are not yet used to. The company expected the things to change in due course, but it did not happen, there is no improvement even after about a year. LG has waited enough and in all probabilities will end its association with Windows Phone 7. It is planning to go in for Android operating system at least as far as consumer devices are concerned because there is no point in spending time, effort and money in going ahead with the Window phone model.
However it does not mean that LG will totally discard the operating system. The research and development wing will continue to work on the platform.
Miracle, a mid range phone of LG running on Windows Phone 7 with 4 inch touchscreen display, 1Ghz Snapdragon processor and built in NFC is expected to emerge at the end of the month, to compete with Nokia phones in particular. But LG is putting on hold other phones which are under production.
LG’s concern with the current feasibility of the ecosystem of the Windows Phone is understandable. But it will not be good for the Windows Phone if LG does not have any more interest in the Operating System.
Incidentally ‘Jil Sander Phone’ happens to be the one of the best among recent WP7 phones.
