Kickstarter project to build 90-foot long Super Mario Bros. level in Lego

A man is embarking on what could be considered one of the most epic childhood dreams. Zachary Pollock has launched a Kickstarter in the hope of fulfilling his dream to create a level of Super Mario Brothers out of Lego to scale.

Pollock will be recreating level 1-1 of the classic Nintendo game to be specific. He’s looking for $26,400 worth of funding to purchase around 780,000 Lego pieces (anyone who’s a fan knows they don’t come cheap), as well as plywood, plexiglas, and mounting hardware. At one Lego brick per pixel, the finished mosaic will measure 6 feet tall and over 90 feet wide.

It’s important to also note that the $26,400 all goes toward buying materials, none of it includes labor costs. In order to build this epic geek mosaic, Pollock will be calling upon the citizens of Portland, Oregon (where he resides) to help him in a series of brick building parties.

If funded, Pollock is looking to take the mosaic on a tour de geek, starting with a local showing at Bricks Cascade in Portland, Oregon. Then moving on to BrickCon in Seattle. Pollack also plans on traveling to more populated cons, like the Penny Arcade Expo.

But before any of this takes place, Pollock has 23 days to raise the full amount. As of this posting he has already raised $2,457 toward his cause. If you donate $1,500 or more, you’ll get a piece of history–one full panel of the level 1-1 mosaic after its exhibition tour, which is far less than the average rate for a Michael Godard painting.
